9/11 Lest We Never Forget...fly our flag
Hard to believe it's been 9 years...

We were watching Fox News last night as they broadcast achieves of 9/11, a horrible day that would change our lives forever as well as our day of life. In reflection I remember the day vividly. I was listening to the radio while getting ready for work. There was a news break - probably an understatement. I remember telling Roger, "quick, turn on the TV". He turned it on just in time to watch the second tower being hit. Unbelievable! We both shared a lot of mixed feelings. Do I continue getting ready and going in to work, do I call our daughter immediately - she and her husband living in East Africa. Of course I was concerned about them and where they live. Also, during times of uncertainty, we all want to be with family and friends.

Since the 2001 attack on the USA our lives are very different. We went back to our churches, prayed, became patriotic once again. And yes, knew we were at war. We became willing to give up some particular liberties to protect liberty in general. That might even be an oxymoron. We went through a real estate boom then a decline. We've held to presidential elections since then. Economic, turmoil, unrest, uncertainty and so much in between.

We now live in an era that young adults have never heard of the former President Ronald Reagan. A president that lead the rescue of the economy with mortgage interest rates of 18% and made being an American something one would be proud of. We also have children born around and right after 9/11 that have entered a very different US than the one we grew up in as baby boomers.

While I do not put my faith or hope in government, one needs to ask should we participate in the preservation of our form of government? Why you might ask? I'd be happy to answer that. We are a Federal Republic, federal meaning covenant - that's a term we aren't used to hearing. What does it mean? Covenant is a legal binding agreement between two or more parties to do or not do something specified. Let's look at covenant the way the authors of our founding documents did. It is important to note that those authors were believer is God. I did not say all of them were Christians. So, a covenant is the strict biblical sense is not a joint obligation but rather a commitment one makes to another. Interesting all of our founding documents including our state constitutions give reference to God, our creator.

Therefore, a covenant republic, a Constitutional Republic, is a republic that is governed by binding documents, not by the whim of a group of people - much like democracies. Remember when we pledge allegiance to our flag we end with, with liberty and justice for all.

Liberty is not cheap, nor is it free. One need only to remember Christ's death burial and resurrection to truly know that.

So fly the flag and as one patriot said, let's roll...

On Facebook, should have said years, not ears....but maybe we're suppose to hear something and it's taking 9 years and counting to listen!
